CASCADE Tutor Team

Tutorial Staff are members of Cascade Training Associates, founded by Francesca Inskipp and Brigid Proctor in 1994. The tutor and development team are Caro Bailey, Melanie Lockett, Bernice Sorensen, Jill Hunt and Angie Shiress. Michael Carroll has advised on course philosophy and content. Francesca Inskipp, Brigid Proctor, Eddi Piper and Jane Dawson (who were former tutors on the Diploma) are now Honorary Cascade Associates and may attend some Associate meetings.


Caro Bailey
BA (Hons) Kent; 1968: Dip Health Ed; South Bank Poly, 1980: Cert Life Management Skills; Thames Poly 1986, Dip Couns.Skills; South West London College, 1989: Cascade Supervision Individual and Group Training (1992). She is a BACP Accredited counsellor and supervisor for individuals and a UKRC Independent Counsellor. Caro is a freelance Humanistic counsellor, supervisor and trainer who has run a private practice for 30 years and has worked in a wide variety of statutory and non-statutory sectors. She was Co-tutor on the Diploma in Practitioner Counselling at the City Lit, and tutor on the PG Diploma in Counselling at the University of Bristol, University of London and the University of West of England. She has written several books including Skills with People with Sheila Dainow and contributed to three chapters in, Supervisor Training: Issues and Approaches (2009).

Melanie Lockett
BA (Hons) Teesside, 1976: Dip Vocational Guidance; KCCS, 1981: Dip Counselling Skills; South West London College, 1990: Diploma Gestalt Therapy. Pellin Centre, 1991: Individual and Group Supervision Training Cascade 1992. She is a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Individual and Group Supervisor. Melanie works in private practice as an integrative counsellor, supervisor and trainer. As well as working with clients and supervisees on a wide range of issues, she has particular interest in supporting people affected by cancer. She is employed in a variety of health settings, facilitating cancer support groups and offering clinical supervision to health professionals and counsellors. She has contributed chapters in three books, one on the responsibilities of the group supervisor in ‘Supervising Counsellors – Issues of Responsibility’ SAGE 2001.


Dr. Bernice Sorensen
BA (Hons) Nottingham 1972; PGCE 1973 London; Dip Coun 1979 Middlesex; MA (psychotherapy) Regents College 1991; Dr. Psychotherapy 2005 Metanoia. Cascade supervision, individual and group 1992; BACP Senior Accredited, Counsellor and Supervisor, UKCP registered psychotherapist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Bernice works in private practice as an integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor. She has a background in teaching, youth work and setting up and managing counselling services for young people. She has also worked in education as a counsellor, as well as the NHS, and employment assistance programmes. She is associate editor for supervision in Therapy Today. Jill Hunt
MSc TA Psychotherapy, 2002 Certified Transactional Analyst, 2008 Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (TSTA). 2003; Diploma Counselling Skills South West London College: 1985, Post Diploma Cert in Person Centred Supervision PCT in Britain,1996; UKCP registered psychotherapist. BACP registered supervisor individuals and groups. Jill works in private practice in Central London and West Sussex. She has a particular interest in supervision and how supervisees and supervisors are able to make the most out of supervision. She has had many years of experience as a supervisor, within the voluntary sector and for organisations, as well as in private practice. She is a member of the Metanoia Institute Transactional Analysis tutor team. Having undertaken the South West London Course she has a particular interest in providing a learning climate in which adults have the opportunity to resource, take charge of and take responsibility for their own learning.


Angie Shiress
BA(Hons); Polytechnic of Central London, 1991: Graduate Diploma in Psychology; London Guildhall University, 1996: MSc in Counselling Psychology; University of East London, 1999: Diploma in Individual and Group Supervision; Cascade, 2006. She is a UKAHPP accredited and a UKRC and UKCP registered counsellor. Angie works as an Integrative counsellor, supervisor and trainer both in the NHS and in private practice. She has particular interest and experience in working with the interplay between mind and body and in offering supervision to health care professionals and counsellors working within health care settings.
